Of all the disasters and embarrassments of the Dubya years, the worst will be rolled back within the year. With the sweep of a pen President Obama has ordered the Guantanamo Bay prison, as well as all of the CIA secret prisons, closed within that time.
And more importantly, all interrogations are now to conform with the US Army Field Manual, ending the use of torture of any kind. Thus we begin the long, slow climb back to the moral high ground.

I agree with you both, but that doesn't answer my question.
closing that prison is an utterly symbolic gesture without any real merit. You both know full well that EVERYONE of those prisoners has MUCH worse treatment in their home countries to look forward to.
Let's not forget too, there are some genuine villains in that jail. What of them? Some of the prisoners are confirmed terrorists who have a pathological hatred for your country AND mine. Should they be released back into the "wild" because some of them were mistreated?
Don't take me wrong, I don't condone torture and adhering to the Geneva Convention is the way forward, but I'll ask you again: Gitmo's closed. Now what?
